This is Karla Valentine. She’s from Suffolk, UK and she had a job as a mid-day assistant at a school in Suffolk that told her she was setting a bad example for the children by having tattoos and piercings.

She was (heavily) tattooed when she was hired at the school, and believes it was “ok” for them because it was winter and she was covered due to the cold. As summer approached however, her clothing became lighter and lighter and the complaints began.
“I was promptly issued with a “standards of dress” guide. It said that visible tattoos and facial piercings were not setting a good example and should be covered up. This was the first bit of communication I had received during my job.” says Karla
After deciding she didn’t feel comfortable working at a place that didn’t believe she was capable because of her skin, she submitted her resignation.
There were several meetings among Karla and the faculty, but she said didn’t feel she “should have to fight to justify that I’m a hard worker and a decent person.”
She expressed her sadness at the narrow minded intolerance of adults; who themselves are responsible for setting an example for these children.
To add to the nonsense of it all, the school had an in house fair which included (of all things) a temporary tattoo both.
In my opinion, they may as well have started shouting, “WITCH!” and “BURN HER!”, as they felt their chests swell with pride.
